George's Gold Mine is named after George Ellis, who ran the mine in the early 20th century. It was opened to the public more than 30 years ago by George Robb for the Forest Fair in December 1978. He and his family owned the farm and operated the show mine for decades. When he and his wife both got sick lately, the mine was closed to the public.
George's Gold Mine is located at the Orara Gold Field and was the only mine in this area open to the public.
