The Crowborough Caves are public caves, although they are not open to the public. They are a sort of Blair Witch of the underground, having a website, a video, and being published, while nobody ever has seen them. The urban legend about the caves tells they were lost many years ago, probably in the 1960s and have been rediscovered lately.
The late Mr William Chipton and others have campaigned for many years for the re-opening of the caves. Still, there is no result so far. At the moment the most exact description goes like this: "...sources indicate that the caves were far-reaching in the nineteenth century, but their current state is hard to evaluate".
We are convinced it is a hoax, but we think it is pretty funny too.
