History

Description

Cueva d'en Xoroi is nowadays a disco and bar. The cave lies spectacular, it opens in a cliff face above the sea. The dancefloor is built into the cave entrance, partly inside the cave and partly above the sea. The cliff faces towards west and so offers a great view on the sunset.

The disco has several dance floors and VIP areas. The bar offers any kind of drink, but no food. Avoid beachwear, tank tops, or sportswear.

Many years ago, a castaway washed up on the shore and climbed up the rocks to safety. Some say he was a Turkish corsair whose crew had mutinied. He then lived in the cave, stealing food from the surrounding villages. One day, during one of these raids, he saw a young girl in Alaior with whom he immediately fell in love. He kidnapped her from her wedding and brought her to his cave. There they lived undiscovered for many years. She also fell in love with him and they had several children. The citizens of Alaior were unable to catch the robber and did not find the missing bride either. With the children, the robberies became more brazen because there were more mouths to feed. But one day in winter, something extraordinary happened: it snowed on the warm Mediterranean island. So the citizens were able to follow his footsteps and discovered the cave. Cornered, the pirate and his eldest son jumped to their deaths, but the wife and other children were taken to Alaior. And to this day their descendants live in the city of Alaior.

A more recent legend tells that the disco is a secret. It is not, actually the first thing you will see at the airport are flyers for the cave disco. It is well signposted and quite popular.
