Description

棉花天坑 (Miánhuā tiān kēng, Cotton Sinkhole) is a tiankeng, 160 m long and 120 m wide. It is sometimes called 罗城棉花天坑 (Luocheng Cotton Tiankeng). It was developed with an 800 m long cliff path, which was along the vertical cliff face. This tiankeng is quite irregular, a part of the wall is vertical, another is overhanging, and one side is a steep slope.

The site is very remote, the village at the site was very poor and actually doomed. A local had the idea to create a scenic area centered at the tiankeng, to provide jobs and income. He also created infrastructure like a road. There is a hotel at the rim which uses houses formerly inhabited by the locals. There is also a sort of ent location inside the tiankeng. And a nearby cave named Changsheng Dong was developed as a show cave and is also part of the scenic area. The scenic area seems to be a success, and due to the lack of theme park rides, it is far less annoying than most others.
