History

1956 underwater cave first explored by Vasco Murray.
1995 first map by Sheck Exley.

Description

Peacock Springs State Park has two major springs, Peacock Springs and Bonnet Springs, both tributaries of the Suwannee River. There are also six sinkholes. The underwater cave passages have been explored and surveyed by cave divers for about 10 kilometers. This is one of the longest underwater cave systems in the continental United States.

A nature trail follows the underground passages of the cave system. Swimming in Peacock Springs and Orange Grove Sink are popular activities during the summer. Only divers who have proof of their scuba certification are allowed to explore the underwater caverns.
