Kagoshima Prefecture is the southern tip of Kyushu, the third-largest island of Japan plus the Ryukyu Islands. A chain of active and dormant volcanoes, including the great Sakurajima, which is one of Japan’s most active volcanoes. Most notable for caves are two islands, Okinoerabu Island and Tokuno Island, which have a different geology. Okinoerabu Island was formed by rising coral and is thus covered by limestone.
