Geoparque Costões e Lagunas


The geopark is located at the coast around Rio de Janeiro. It has numerous karst areas with caves, but none is open to the public. But there are several small sea caves along the coast why are open for visits, either by boat or in some cases by swimming. One example are the Gruta do Farol and the Gruta de Ponta Negra near Ponta Negra. Thea are located right below the Farol de Ponta Negra, but are not accessible from there. The Gruta da Sacristia is located at the eastern coast of the peninsula and accessible from the end of the road Rua Sacrista. Gruta Azul and Buraco do Meteoro are the most impressive sea caves on Ilha do Cabo Frio (Arraial do Cabo). They are accessible by boat only.
