The speleological research started in México rather late, in the middle of the twentieth century. Cavers from the United States, mainly from Texas, began visiting Mexico in the 1950s. F. Bonet published on the caves in the Xilitla, San Luis Potosí, area in 1953. A group of American cavers made their first trip to Mexico in 1962. A year later they formed the AMCS.
