The Aosta Valley is an Alpine valley which borders Switzerland and France. It includes the italian side of such famous mountains like Mont Blanc, Monte Rosa, Gran Paradiso and the Matterhorn. The autonomous region is very mountainous and the Mont Blanc (4,810 m asl) is not only its highest peak, it’s also the highest point of Italy. Located at the center of the Alps, it is the place where the crystalline core of the mountain ridge reaches the surface. Metamorphic rocks, insoluble, with no karstification and no caves. But on the other hand the rocks contain veins of ores of almost any kind. Gold, silver, copper, iron, coal, and asbestos, among many others, were mined here.
