Otto von Guericke ([ˈɡeːʁɪkə]) was a German scientist, inventor, and politician. His major scientific achievement was the establishment of the physics of vacuums, including the invention of the Magdeburg Sphere and the barometer. But he was interested in all aspects of science and natural history. He was also the mayor of the city Magdeburg.
