Southern Thuringia is very similar to the
Thüringer Becken.
But the volcanism of the nearby Rhön (Vogelsberg volcano) produced a number
of basaltic mountains, which make the typical character of this area.
This area is also called Henneberger Land.
It is around 300m asl, but some mountains have 700m asl.
This is a little bit lower than the nearby
Thüringer Wald
and the Rhön on the other side.
