The canton of Fribourg is located in western Switzerland and named after its homonymous capital. The canton is bilingual, with French spoken by more than two thirds of the citizens and German by a little more than a quarter, both are official languages. The western border is Lake Neuchâtel, the canton is mostly hilly and is part of the Swiss Plateau, but despite being called pre-Alps it is part of the Bernese Alps. The internationally most famous district is obviously Gruyère or Greyerz, the homonymous cheese is the original "Raclette cheese", its actual name is Gruyère cheese.
