The Lomax Placer Mine was a hydraulic placer mining operation near downtown Breckenridge. They used hydraulic mining techniques, washing loose, unconsolidated gravels through placer mining equipment with high capacity water hoses. On an area of 2ha the complete collection of equipment used in such a hydraulic mining operation is demonstrated.
The visit to Lomax mine includes the surface operation, typical placer mining equipment, a bachelor miner's cabin, the chemists equipment for assaying the ore content, and a slide show with historic photographs. The miner's cabin is complete with stove, musical instruments, snowshoes, actual furniture and utensils.
