Hopemore Mine is located in the Leadville mining district east of the city. It is owned by the miner and locksmith Bob Calder, who plans to open the mine as a show mine in spring 2009, weather permitting. The road up to the mine, off County Road 1 (Fifth Street), is not plowed. The tourist mine will bring the visitors to a depth of 150m. It will focus on mining safety education, mining heritage, environmental awareness and preservation. There will also be a nature path, an above ground tour for people who are either hesitant or unable to journey underground.
