History

 
1931first archaeological studies by the Department of Monuments, led by the Architect Emilio Cuevas, Ignacio Herrera and Marino Gómez.
1967start of the Cholula Project by Ignacio Marquina.
1971explorations finished, six kilometers of tunnels built allowing the researchers to learn about the substructures.

Description

Beneath the great pyramid of Quetzalcoatl there are 8 km of tunnels, some with recently discovered frescoes. The museum near the tunnel entrance has copies of these frescoes. The originals are not shown to the public.

Guides are recommended as there are no signs inside. Some of the guides speak English.
