Khewra Salt Mines
Pakistan is located in the northwast of India, having a long and sometimes disputed border with this big neighbour. Capital is Islamabad, other main cities are Karachi, Lahore, and Faisalabad. The country has a population of 130 Million people and an area of 800,000km². It is a socalled Islamic Republic, which means that unlike in western countries religion is not separated from the government. State religion is Sunni Muslim.
The country belongs to Asia, and geologically to the southern outskirts of the Himalayan orogeny. The country is mountaineous, the geology is complex. There is limestone and karst, and numerous resources.
