Iran

Iran is a country of the Near East. It lies between the Persian Gulf and the Caspian. Down its western flank, from the Turkish frontier along Irak to the Gulf of Oman, run the Zagros mountains. Zard Kuh-e Bakhtiari is the highest peak, 4,309 m asl, in the south of this mountains. In the north Iran has a border to Afghanistan and in the east to India The southeasternmost coast lies at the Indian Ocean.

Due to the presence of great quantities of limestone, many caves have been formed in Iran. The most famous of these caves are to be found in Azarbaijan, in Kurdestan, near Hamadan, Isfahan Province and in the Teheran area.
