Al Jaza'ir - Algeria

Algeria is an African country, located in the north of the contintinent between Mediterranean Sea and Sahara desert. The Capital is Algiers, the spoken languages are Arabic, Berber, and probably a little French. The main religion is Sunni Muslim. The country has an area of 2.4 Million square kilometers, mostly desert, inhabited by 28 Million people.

Algeria has coastal plains, the Atlas mountain ridge and again plains to the south. There are numerous outcrops of limestone and many important cave systems, although the caves are generally not very well explored, compared to industrial nations. A special thing are cave paintings in the southern areas, which were inhabited during the Ice Ages by man.
