The cave is of Karst origin, is just over 350m long and is made up of a number of chambers. At the entrance there is the vestibule, a large chamber adorned with enormous stalagmites. The vestibule gives way to the most beautiful chamber, known as Casa delle Janas (The House of the Fairies), an oval shaped room, 25m long and about 8m wide. It abounds in concretions and is dominated by three enormous stalagmites. Neolithic remains have been found in the entrance passages. Text by Tony Oldham (2004). With kind permission. |
