History

Description

The Buco del Piombio is not very well developed, as a flood in 1966 destroyed most of the installations. It is a single huge passage with a cave river. There are no side passages and nearly no speleothems.

The cave is known for a very long time. The entrance contained remains from the Moustérien and cave bear bones. Some stille visible ruins are apparently from the middle ages. Today there is a restaurant and a small exhibition inside the entrance hall.

The description on this page is based on the book by Aellen/Strinati from 1977. This means, the information is 25 years old! Please contact me if you have an update.
