History

1997 mine abandoned.

Description

The former opencast coal mine Junkundar was abandoned in 1997. The huge hollow filled with groundwater after the pumps were shut down, and is now a 40 m deep lake. The company plans to open it for tourism, but it seems they do not intend to create a show mine, they actually think about making it a picknick or bathing spot. The only mining-related activities here are actually having a look at the nearby open cast from an outlook. The main outlook is on top of the slag heap north of the lake.
