This was built by the Jebusites to ensure their water supply during a siege. It is just inside their city's defence wall and this is possibly where Joab entered the City of David (2 Samuel 5:8. 1 Chronicles 11:6). About 100 meters down from the entrance to the City of David excavation, a small museum features photos of the excavation work with explanation of the water situation as it used to be. A spiral stair case leads to a tunnel extending into a shaft. Text by Tony Oldham (2004). With kind permission. |
