There are many impressive tunnels on Earth, but this is probably the most famous (or most infamous) tunnel of all. Britain, as an island whch is part of Europe, also had a special relation to its neighbours. It was always necessary to use a ship to leave the country. This is a general problem for travel, trade, and cultural exchange. But also it is a great advantage concerning the spreading of diseases, e.g. rabies, or probably wars. However, the advantages are so big, the construction of the tunnel is a dream of centuries. And while it was started various times during history, it fails until the end of the 20th century. And even this attempt was a part failure, as the company who built the tunnel was not able to earn the necessary revenues and collapsed after a few years. However, the tunnel is there and it will stay.
