Description

The vinery was originally founded by Narcisse Greno, but 20 years later Monsieur Pommery and Henri Vasnier joined the vinery as financial backer. After the sudden death of Monsieur Pommery his wife Jeanne-Alexandrine Louise Pommery took over. The created the famous Brut Nature champagne, the symbol of the house Pommery and she built the representatve Domain building. It was built on a hill outside the town of Reims, where she knew of concealed Gallo-Roman chalk pits, which were well preserved. The mines were good cellars, but by far not big enough for the long ageing of the champagne. Belgian and French miners dug out 18km of interconnected galleries, prepared as rib or barrel vaults.

The Pommery Estate is open for visitors for guided tours of the cellar, at least a small part of it. There are also seminars, lunches, dinners, cocktails, and weddings held at the estate. Such events include despite the normal things like catering service, dishes and decoration, one bottle of champagne per participant and the sommelier service.
