History

Description

The infantery casemat Esch near Hatten iks part of the french Maginot Line. Nearby on the other side of the small village is the Musée de l'Abri de Hatten, with an extensive collection on the Maginot Line and its structures. This site is just a single museum and not intended to inform generally about the war. It had two moments of importance during World War II, first in the 1939-40 campaign and then in the fierce battle of Hatten-Rittershoffen in January 1945. During the last major tank confrontation in WWII this installation was attacked by the Germans first and then by the Americans.
