History

06-FEB-1829founded by Jacques Bollinger.

Description

The Champagne House Bollinger is named after Jacques Joseph Placide Bollinger, a German who came from Ellwangen in Württemberg (Wurtemburg). He founded the vinery in 1829 together with Paul Renaudin and Athanase Hennequin de Villermont.

But the great history of the house is based on Madame Lily Bollinger, widow of the grandson of the founder, who steered the house through the troubled German occupation and doubled the production after the war. Bollinger has 150ha vineyards located in the best crus of the Champagne, growing Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay grapes. It is one of the last champagne houses to be completely independent, a family run firm. The current head is since 1994 Ghislain de Montgolfier, the great great grandson of Jacques Bollinger.
