showcaves.com has a long history online.
It started as a part of the personal homepage of
Jochen Duckeck
in 1993.
Since then it moved several times to new servers and new addresses.
As all those addresses were providers of free webspace, there was never a chance to get statistics about hits.
Mid May 2000, NetCount, a new service for counting web hits, which worked invisible, was implemented
on the pages.

As NetCount started counting in mid May, this month shows only half the hits of all other months. Technical problems of NetCount in August resulted in a loss of several hundred counts. Despite those two months, showcaves.com always had more than 10.000 visitors every month!
Explanation: NetCount counts page visitors. Every Hit is one visitor!
As the implementation used an invisible image for counting, it always counted every visitor only once. Normal browsers cache all images and do not load them the next time they are needed. Only in the very rare case that someone resets his entire cache, or the cache for one page by reloading this page, NetCount got another impression, which now was only added to the naumber of Page Impressions.
As you see, the list ends in October, NetCount ceased in November. Then te site moved to a new provider and the new statistic starts in December on the page Hits 2001 on Showcaves.com
