These book lists are in great demand. They list every new caving book, as published. They give a good insight into current publications and provide an interesting guide to the prices of secondhand and antiquarian books.
- BIOKOVO by Roman Ozimec and numerous contributors 2008 282 pp, numerous colour photos, about two per page. This is luxurious monograph on the Biokovo mountain range in Croatia. All aspects of the national park are covered with chapters on Geography, Geology, Speleology, Fungi, Fauna, Archaeology, Architecture, Ethnology, Mountains and climbing, Tourism etc. The first account of caving in Biokovo dates from 1774 when Alberto Fortis described in his book "A Journey Through Dalmatia" some natural ice pits. Many of these shafts have north facing entrance preserving the ice even summer. In the days before refrigerators these ice pits were highly sought after for preserving food. The most famous cave in the Park is Tucepska Vilenjaca at a height of 1180 m above sea level. A small hole at the bottom of a 100 m high rock face leads 2 km long cave with some impressive speleothems. Vilenjaca means "Cave of Fairies" and legend has it that beautiful blonde girls with horses legs lived in the cave and used to scare passers-by in the dark. The deepest cave in the Park is Jama (Pothole) Amfors - 788 m and with an entrance1590 m above sea level. It is located 1 km south of Sveti Jure. It is a very strenuous cave, near vertical with very little horizontal development. HB In Croatian £9.00

- ADVENTURE OF CAVING / New Undated Edition / A Beginner's Guide for Exploring Caves Softly and Safely by David McClurg [1997] 251 pp hundreds of photos. This latest edition has a lot of new ideas - like how to get lost in a cave. SB was £24.50 now £9.00
- PENNINE UNDERGROUND by N. Thornber with maps drawn by Arthur Gemmell 1959 208 pp, 14 maps. This is the rare first edition with the green cover. Expect to pay £25 or more, but this one is a bit tatty, and well used. Book measures 5 and a half inches by 4 and a half inches. Dalesman Publishing company Clapham. Spine has been repaired with cellotape but bottom 1" missing. Sadly the cellotape has yellowed with age and shows inside front and back covers. It does not spoil any of the text.
