The Stone Forest is a huge area covering more than 2,600 square kilometers. The limestone of this bare karst area was is continually dissolved by the warm rains of south west China over millennia. The result are deep karren, and between them up to 40m high pinnacles. The V-shaped gorges and eroded cracks cut the rock into stone pillars, a myriad of grotesque pinnacles which often resemble a stone forest.
