Description

The Museum Of Old and New Art (MONA) is located at the shores of the Derwent River, south of Hobart, on the grounds of the Moorilla winery. It is said to be the largest private art collection in Australia, probably the southern hemisphere, which is open to the public. The museum was created by the multi-millionaire David Walsh, and cost him AUD 150 million. Walsh is a Tasmanian, living at Hobart, his wealth is said to originate from gambling. His museum is actually just his personal art collection, his hobby, and ther is no didactic concept or intention. And the art is pretty weird too, most of the exhibits are ugly, stinky, sexual or simply weird. It seems the

showcaves.com is dedicated to underground sites, so we are not talking much about the art. There are numerous sources about this on the web. But what makes this site interesting for us is the location of the gallery, inside a vast underground vault which is reached on a narrow spiral staircase. The exit is an irregular suspended gangway of rusted steel.
